Products Covered by Chestny Znak and Their Customs Codes: A Reference Guide

Whether a product falls under Chestny Znak labelling when exported to Russia is decided by its customs code (TN VED). This guide sets out the main product groups subject to mandatory labelling and the customs headings that correspond to them, and explains how the marking codes are obtained.

Important: the table below is a general guide. The exact scope is determined by the product’s full ten-digit TN VED code and the regulation in force. Ask us to confirm where your product stands.

New categories added in 2026

From 1 March 2026 a new wave extends mandatory labelling in light industry. The main products entering scope:

  • Special and occupational protective clothing
  • Hard hats and protective helmets
  • Life jackets and safety harnesses
  • Leather belts
  • Fire-resistant and rubber work gloves

And from 1 August 2026 selling unlabelled light-industry stock is banned outright. Companies producing or importing in these categories should start preparing now.

How are marking codes obtained?

What people call “starter codes” are the marking codes (KM — код маркировки) printed on each product unit. The steps to obtain them:

  1. Register: registration on the CRPT / Chestny Znak platform and obtaining the electronic signature (UKEP).
  2. Describe GTINs: products are described in the national catalogue with their GS1 GTIN numbers, including colour, size and model variants.
  3. Order codes: as many unique marking codes (KM) as required are ordered.
  4. Print and apply: codes are printed onto the label or packaging at the correct DataMatrix grade.
  5. Report: entry into circulation, import and transfers of ownership are reported to the system.

At high production volumes you can speed this up with our bulk labelling and code management solutions.
