Russia: From October 1, Marketplaces Must Verify Marking Before Listing

CRPT, the operator of Russia’s mandatory Chestny Znak (Честный Знак) marking system, has announced a major change for marketplaces: from 1 October 2026, Wildberries, Ozon and other marketplaces must verify a product against the marking system before it can be listed. It is a threshold that directly affects Turkish exporters selling into Russia through marketplaces.

1 October 2026: marking verification becomes mandatory on marketplaces

Under the new rule, marketplace platforms will run a set of checks before a product card goes live, so that illegal and unmarked goods are filtered out before they ever reach the storefront. According to CRPT, such checks are already having an effect: in the first seven months of 2026 the rejection rate for marked goods fell by roughly 50% versus the prior year — the system is maturing and controls are tightening.

What exactly will marketplaces check?

From 1 October, platforms must verify, in summary:

  • Seller registration: whether the seller is registered in the marking system (CRPT / GIS MT),
  • Code validity: whether the product’s Chestny Znak (DataMatrix) code is valid and correctly defined in the system,
  • Before card publication: this check happens before the product card is published on the storefront — if anything is missing, the product is not listed.

In short, marking is now checked not only at customs or the warehouse, but right at the entrance of the sales channel.

Both FBO and FBS are covered — the sales model doesn’t matter

An important detail: verification is independent of the sales model. Whether goods ship from the marketplace’s own warehouse (FBO) or from your warehouse/fulfilment (FBS), the check applies in both cases. There is no “we do FBS, so it doesn’t affect us” exemption.

What changes for Turkish exporters?

If you sell into Russia via Wildberries or Ozon, after 1 October your product cannot be listed without Chestny Znak marking and a valid CRPT registration. Companies that don’t set up marking correctly before shipment won’t even get their product card published — meaning lost sales and shelf delays. We explain how the process works in our what is Chestny Znak and marking before customs guides. For high-volume sellers, our Chestny Znak for high-volume exporters article covers setup at scale.

Scope also widened the same day: sausage products and motor oil

1 October is not limited to the marketplace rule. On the same date, sausage / processed-meat products enter mandatory marking and a permissive regime for motor oil begins. The Chestny Znak scope expands with new categories every month; a product that is out of scope today may be in scope tomorrow. You can check your product’s status on our code lookup page.

What should you do now?

To get your marketplace sales ready for 1 October:

  • Verify whether your product is within Chestny Znak scope (code lookup).
  • Complete your company registration in CRPT / GIS MT and, if required, your EAC certificate.
  • Set up your GS1/GTIN structure and move the marking flow to before shipment.
  • Make sure your marketplace seller account matches the marking system.

We previously covered why exporting to Russia is often assumed to be “banned” but is in fact not banned — it requires compliance; this news is exactly one part of that compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does this rule take effect?

1 October 2026. Per CRPT’s official announcement, from that date marketplaces must verify a product against the marking system before listing it.

Only Wildberries and Ozon?

No; the rule covers marketplace platforms generally. Wildberries and Ozon are the two largest examples.

I use FBS — does it affect me?

Yes. Verification is independent of the sales model — both FBO (marketplace warehouse) and FBS (your own fulfilment) are covered.

How do I know if my product is in scope?

Scope is determined by the HS/GTIP code and category. Check quickly on our code lookup page, and consult us if unsure.
